The Blue Orchids draws inspiration from an era gone by. Prioritising the beauty of songs and melodies as well as intricate arrangements of chamber jazz from that era.

The group was formed by Sol and Cody who wanted to create a platform which would showcase their love for the music of such artists as the Nat King Cole trio, Ahmad Jamal trio and the Oscar Peterson trio, recreating the authentic sounds of this iconic jazz format of the original drummer-less piano trios (Piano, Bass, Guitar) from the 40s and 50s.

The name comes from a Hoagy Carmichael song called ‘Blue Orchids’.
